This trophy exhibits a degree of handling wear but still presents very well. This Trophy stands on a 7-1/4" base, which contains a gold band reading, "WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS - NEW YORK METS - 1986 - MEL STOTTLEMYRE". This trophy contains a gold-colored crown at the top and a silver-colored baseball at the bottom of the base as well as pins of the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox. On the perimeter of the base are 30 gold-colored flags respresenting the names of each Major League team. It measures 12 inches tall at its peak. This amazing trophy was specially gifted and presented to the late Mel Stottlemyre. Stottlemyre played 11 Major League seasons before becoming a pitching coach. The 5-time World Series winning pitching coach won his first championship with the New York Mets in 1986. The 1986 Fall Classic was one of the most memorable World Series' in baseball history. The Mets found themselves down to their final strike twice in game 6, before executing one of the greatest comebacks in baseball history. They won games 6 and 7 to win their 2nd Championship in franchise history. Stottlemyre will forever be remembered as one of the greatest pitching coaches in baseball history, and he has 5 World Series rings with the New York Mets and New York Yankees to back it up. Stottlemyre gave this trophy to Brandon Steiner.
